Welsh Museums Festival offers free, educational fun for families this half term
The Welsh Museums Festival returns from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November, with more than 60 museums and galleries across Wales taking part – the highest number in the festival's 12-year history.
Many events are free or low cost, offering families a fun and educational way to spend half term together while discovering the stories of their local communities.
Activities
Activities during the week include storytelling and creative writing workshops, arts and crafts, trails and tours exploring local history, and lantern making and bat box building.
Free bilingual resources
The festival has 2 free bilingual learning resources, the Hwyl resource and the Halloween resource. They explore the traditions of Calan Gaeaf, the Welsh Halloween, and include activities such as learning how to write cynghanedd, and much more. This year the festival also has a greener focus, encouraging families to celebrate while reducing waste.
Dr Ken Griffin, President of Museums Federation Cymru, said: "The festival is especially popular with families, providing free and accessible activities during a period of financial pressure. Above all, it's the perfect time to discover your local museum."
