Cyber resilience support for schools

Training and resources to help schools prepare for and respond to cyber threats.
12 June 2026

Schools are increasingly targeted by cyber criminals, making it more important than ever to build strong cyber resilience across your setting. Cyber attacks are becoming more common, and phishing (scam messages or emails) is the most common threat, affecting everyone, organisations and individuals alike, so always check links before you click.

To support schools in preparing for and responding to cyber threats, a range of training, services and resources are available.

Training and services

Head Teacher cyber webinars

Wales Cyber Resilience Centre are delivering dedicated cyber security webinars for Head Teachers in July. These free sessions will focus on leadership responsibilities, strengthening whole school resilience, and practical actions to reduce risk.

Cyber incident response training

Police forces in Wales are running free online training sessions for school staff. Each session lasts two hours and walks you through a realistic cyber incident so you can test how prepared your school is.

Cyber security awareness training module

This National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)-backed online training module helps school staff understand common cyber threats and improve their school’s cyber resilience.

Phishing awareness training module

An online training module is available to help staff understand phishing: what it is, how to spot it, and how to protect themselves and their organisation. The module covers common phishing techniques and practical steps to stay safe.

Hwb-managed email phishing simulation

Schools using Hwb managed email can request a safe phishing test to help staff learn how to spot suspicious emails. The simulation sends a realistic message and provides an anonymised report so schools can identify where additional support or training may be needed.

Guidance and resources

Cyber response plan for schools

A practical plan that schools can use to improve how they detect and deal with cyber incidents. It includes templates that can be adapted for your own setting.

NCSC CyberSprinters resources

CyberSprinters is a set of free teaching resources and an online game from the National Cyber Security Centre for children aged 7 to 11. The materials help learners understand:

  • how to create strong passwords

  • how to protect their devices

  • how to keep personal information safe

  • how to spot suspicious messages
