Every learner deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Effective schools continually seek to understand:
how well learners are progressing
what is working well and what could be improved
They use evidence, professional insight and collaboration to identify priorities and take action that makes a positive difference for learners. The NR:EI has been developed to support schools in this work.
Evaluation and improvement are not separate processes. Evaluation helps schools build a shared understanding of strengths, challenges and opportunities. Improvement is the action taken in response. Together, they support continuous improvement and better outcomes for learners.
Improvement is strengthened through collaboration. Engaging learners, staff, families, governors, partners and other schools helps:
deepen understanding
challenge assumptions
build collective capacity for improvement
Schools do not improve in isolation. They improve through professional dialogue, shared enquiry and learning from others.
The NR:EI provides practical guidance, tools and prompts.
These support schools at different stages of their evaluation and improvement work. The resource is intended to be flexible and responsive to context. You do not need to work through every section or use every resource. Select the support that is most relevant to your priorities and needs.
