Welsh language standards

Your resource, including videos, audio clips and all other elements, must:

  • meet Welsh language standards

  • be developed in both Welsh and English, ensuring both languages are of equal quality and available at the same time

  • use the correct terminology that aligns with the Curriculum for Wales and BydTermCymru

Video and audio

To comply with Welsh language standards, video and audio content must treat Welsh and English equally. This will usually mean providing versions in both Welsh and English. All videos must include closed captions in the language of the video, and all audio files must be accompanied by a transcript.

Read the ‘Accessibility requirements’ section for full guidance on creating video and audio content that complies with the Welsh language standards and accessibility requirements.

Documents

Any document hosted on Hwb must be provided separately in Welsh and English. This includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF documents. Bilingual documents are only accepted if they are specifically for developing multilingual skills.

External websites and apps

Resources hosted on external websites, apps or platforms must be available in both Welsh and English, unless an exception has been agreed with Hwb in advance.
