Hwb Playlists provide all authenticated Hwb users with a way of collating content from a range of web sources, along with their own materials and quiz questions, into a single resource that can be shared with other users. These can also be turned into an assignment, which will collect the quiz scores from any user who completes the assignment, and display these for the teacher in a markbook.

Read our full guide to creating Playlists and Assignments.

Setting a quiz as an Assignment

To set a quiz as an Assignment, open the playlist, click Share > Assignments. You will then need to add the settings for your assignment.

  • Mark scheme: you can either use one of the options provided or add your own.
  • Assignment URL: this will be pre-filled for you but can be edited if required.
  • Schedule (optional): you can determine when the assignment is available to start and when it will become unavailable.
  • Time limit (optional): this enables you to restrict the amount of time that the learner has to complete the assignment.
  • Assign to Groups (optional): this will share the assignment to a Hwb Class.

Click either Save (if you’re not ready to share it yet) or Save and share Assignment. When you save and share your assignment, you will be given a link to share with your class and a QR code to display.

Learners will need to be logged-in to Hwb when they access the link. Their scores will be automatically collected into the markbook for that assignment.

You can find the markbooks for all assignments you have previously set from your user profile. Your user profile can be found by clicking on your name at the top right-hand corner of the page then selecting View Profile.

Hwb Networks are easy to set up, secure online collaboration working spaces for Hwb Community users. Each Hwb Network includes a discussion forum, file storage area, announcements and an area to share playlists and assignments.

Members can subscribe to e-mail notifications to keep up to date with activity within each network. When you join or create a network, you will be automatically subscribed to a weekly e-mail digest of activity, but you can adjust the frequency of these notifications.

Hwb Networks aren’t available for learners. Please see Hwb Classes for the learner equivalent.

Teachers can create classes for learners to join and interact with one another in a safe collaborative area. Teachers can share files and playlists, start discussions and create announcements in their classes.

Create a new Hwb Class as follows.

  1. Log in to Hwb.
  2. Click on the Hwb Classes tile.
  3. Click + New Class (on the right-hand side).
  4. Give your class a name and click Create Class.

Inviting learners to join your class

Within your class there is a link under Share this Class (on the left-hand side) which you can copy and share with your learners. You can manage your learners’ requests under the Requests tab in your class.

Once learners have joined your class they will be able to add files and contribute to discussions. However, they will not be able to delete any content.
