The NPQH is a vital professional learning experience and, if you believe it is for you, there are professional expectations upon you in line with the responsibilities of headship. As a participant in the programme, you will be expected to agree to:

  • retain an unswerving focus upon improved teaching and learning and outcomes
  • take full responsibility for your own professional learning
  • develop a clarity about the extent to which the dimensions of effective leadership and leadership capabilities can have impact on learner outcomes
  • be committed to leading on an aspect of substantive school improvement focussing on elements of the national agenda, which will afford you leadership insight and skills development
  • act on the feedback offered by the Leadership Coach and other participants
  • be open and honest about the successes and challenges in your own setting
  • approach other settings with an open mind and a willingness to learn
  • adhere to confidentiality. Participants agree not to disclose any information shared by others in any context without explicit permission. Contexts include coaching sessions, within school settings, governing body meetings or on residential elements
  • build the habit of engaging regularly with relevant literature and research and complete any pre-readings, assignments, or activities
  • cultivate professional networks with colleagues locally, nationally, and globally which will push your thinking and sustain professional intent
  • actively seek opportunities to engage with the managerial aspects of school leadership in your own setting
  • attend all mandatory aspects of the course (residentials, school visits and coaching sessions)
  • adhere to deadlines as required
  • provide constructive feedback to the programme organisers
