The Education digital standards provide a clear, principle led framework to help schools understand, manage and improve their digital environment.

The standards support schools, to make informed, sustainable decisions about their digital infrastructure, systems and services. Schools can use the standards independently or with support from their education technology support partner.

The standards:

  • outline core principles

  • explain the purpose of each area

  • set baseline requirements

  • offer guidance for long term sustainability and an increasingly digital curriculum

As part of the national “once for Wales” approach, the standards help deliver a consistent, secure and scalable digital experience across all maintained schools in Wales.

They set a national baseline for schools, assisting them to identify areas of improvement which can be worked towards over time, recognising differences in resources and support. Technical detail is intentionally excluded, with specialist advice provided by local authority teams and education technology support partners. All digital infrastructure must be professionally planned, procured and installed.
