1. About this guide

This guide is for anyone involved in creating educational resources for Wales. The term ‘resource’ refers to materials designed to support:

  • learning and teaching
  • curriculum design
  • learners
  • professional learning

It sets out 7 key principles aimed at helping you to produce high-quality education resources that are relevant in Wales. Each principle is supported by guidance on things to consider, as well as things to avoid in the development of resources.

It also provides guidance on Hwb’s criteria and technical specifications, outlining the expectations and legal obligations that must be met for a resource to be approved for publication.

Resources on Hwb are divided in the following way.

The Curriculum for Wales

These resources are designed for learning and teaching the Curriculum for Wales, including curriculum design and foundation learning for ages 3 to 16. These resources may occasionally overlap with other resource topics listed below.

Other resource topics

While resources on other topics may still support the Curriculum for Wales, they are not intended for direct use with learners. They are more suited for other Hwb topic areas, such as:

This guide will help you determine if your resource is suitable for publication on Hwb and lead you through the submission process.

You will need to identify the type of resource you’re submitting, whether it’s for learning and teaching purposes or something else.

You will also need to ensure that your resource meets:

This guide also includes a checklist to help you understand the requirements for your resource.

Use the checklist on the ‘Check and submit your resource’ page to ensure that your resource meets all the necessary requirements. If it does, submit it for review using the relevant submission form.

Resources relating to the learning and teaching of the Curriculum for Wales will be reviewed and quality assured by Adnodd. Other resource topics will be reviewed by the relevant Welsh Government policy team, or body.

Once your submission is complete, you will be contacted regarding the status of your resource, and any next steps, within 15 working days.

If nothing further is required and your submission is approved, your resource will be published.

If you need to discuss your options before submitting your resource, please get in touch.
