6. Seren stages

Stage 01 (Year 8 to 9)

Supports learners to find their passion, make the right choices for themselves, introduce what their educational journey could look like and start practising super-curricular study, activities include:

  • super-curricular skills
  • debating competition
  • inspirational speaker series
  • finding your passion
  • your future, your choice

Stage 02 (Years 10 to 11)

Provides opportunities for super-curricular activities and competitions, tasters into university life and guidance for the next step on their educational journey. Learners will be required to register for stage 02 to access our online platform, Seren Space, where learners receive notifications for events and opportunities and access to resources. Activities include:

  • subject-specific masterclasses hosted by leading UK universities
  • academic ‘stretch and challenge’
  • modern language courses
  • sector-based sessions such as workshops focused on how to become a vet or medic
  • STEM seminars and tutorials
  • careers advice and sessions exploring GCSE and A level choices
  • guidance about higher education and university courses
  • essay and creative writing competitions
  • opportunities to apply for Seren’s exclusive university summer schools
  • regional face-to-face events and opportunities throughout the year

Stage 03 (Years 12 to 13)

Specific support for entry into leading universities with unique opportunities for learners to receive direct advice from university admissions tutors, on how to apply, develop competitive personal statements, prepare for admissions tests and how to approach interviews. Activities include:

  • masterclasses, lectures and guidance workshops from admissions tutors and academics at leading universities (including Oxford and Cambridge)
  • access to university admissions test prep sessions covering a wide range of subjects (which form part of the entry process for many universities)
  • subject-specific masterclasses delivered by university experts covering a broad range of subjects including law, physics, engineering, maths, English and medicine
  • expert guidance for writing a competitive personal statement and preparing for interviews
  • opportunities to apply for Seren’s exclusive university summer schools
  • mentoring and live Q&A sessions from academics and previous Seren learners
  • opportunities for work experience in areas such as law or medicine
  • personal statement and interview workshops from academics and admissions tutors
  • dedicated Oxford and Cambridge guidance
  • mentoring and links to Seren Graduates studying at leading universities
  • regional face-to-face events and opportunities throughout the year
  • participation in national challenges and competitions

Learners also receive expert guidance to help make informed decisions as they prepare for their next steps.
