3. Parents and carers

As a parent or carer, your understanding of the programme is key to helping your child make the most of the Seren Academy.

Your child will have access to a range of activities and experiences, delivered by top universities and education providers. The Seren Academy will support your child in their pursuit of excellence at the highest level by providing opportunities to remove barriers to aspiring and applying to highly selective higher education courses.

The frequency and challenge of activities increases as learners progress through each stage of The Seren Academy and your child can choose to take part in as many (or few) activities as they wish.

We encourage learners to get involved with as many opportunities that interest them, and to stretch themselves, while being sensible about how much they can realistically take on.

Previous Seren learners have demonstrated how, the programme can prove highly motivational and boost their confidence to help them achieve the success they didn’t initially think they would be capable of.

Right now, thousands of Seren graduates are currently studying at some the best universities all over the world including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, Harvard, Princeton, Chicago, MIT and Melbourne to name a few. The Seren Academy will provide your child with the tools and support to fully realise their academic potential, wherever that might take them.

How you can help

It is important to note, being selected for the programme is just the first step. What learners go on to achieve and experience is up to them, but with your support they can make the most of the opportunities available to them.

Firstly, at the start of each academic year we will offer parents and carers the opportunity to join us via an online meet and greet with your child’s regional Seren coordinator. The sessions will provide an overview of the Seren Academy, the opportunities on offer and the chance for parents and carers to ask any questions about the programme.

We would encourage your child to get immersed in the opportunities available to them at a local level delivered by their Hub Coordinator. Hub Coordinators deliver an extensive and wide-ranging number of activities and programmes throughout the academic year such as university visits, masterclasses, workshops and close links with national & local businesses.

Follow us on X (Twitter) and Facebook for updates on local and national programmes especially the application windows for our exclusive summer school programme for years 10 to 13.
