1. Introduction

The Seren Academy is a fully funded Welsh Government initiative dedicated to supporting Wales’ most able state educated learners achieve their full academic potential into leading universities and succeed on highly selective degree programmes.

The academy is delivered to learners from Years 8 to 13 in schools and further education colleges across Wales, regardless of their economic background, personal situation, or location.

The academy’s programme includes a hybrid of webinars, academic masterclasses, tutorials, discussion groups, mentoring, academic competitions, advice and guidance, employer insight experiences, visits and summer schools at leading UK universities.

The Seren Academy now operates as one continuous programme supporting learners through three stages of progression. Across all stages, learners are provided with opportunities to further their super-curricular exploration and push the boundaries of their academic development and engagement.

Stage 01 (Years 8-9)

Supports learners to find their passion, make the right choices for themselves, introduce what their educational journey could look like and start practising super-curricular study.

Stage 02 (Years 10-11)

Provides opportunities for super-curricular activities and competitions, tasters into university life and guidance for the next step on their educational journey.

Stage 03 (Years 12-13)

Specific support for entry into leading universities with unique opportunities for learners to receive direct advice from university admissions tutors, on how to apply, develop competitive personal statements, prepare for admissions tests and how to approach interviews.
