What you need to know
Understanding data protection, privacy and online consent is essential in the digital world. Every time we go online, whether it is to search for information, to shop, use social media, send emails, we share information about ourselves. Sharing our data helps us to access information, use services and stay connected with our family, friends and communities.
Generative AI is increasingly being used to power interactive chatbots and other online services. It is important that children and young people understand the potential privacy risks and their data protection rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) including how online services need to follow a set of standards when using their data (known as the Children’s Code).
