It examines trends across mathematics and the three sciences in take-up and achievement at A level and patterns of grades at GCSE. Overall they show an increase in entry and grades awarded, although this hides considerable variability between authorities. It outlines relationships to prior-achievement and links to continuing study and success. It sets out variation in provision in learning environments and the range of factors that are a strong determinant of different choices, continuing studies and grades at advanced level.
