Programme Overview
Outline how the programme will be delivered.
The new NPQH programme aims to support and guide participants in readiness for their transition into headship. Participants will be supported through a series of workshops, visits and interactions with their Leadership Coach to shape their strategic vision for leadership. The three residential elements are vital components of the programme, affording time for extended learning. The programme will cover both practice and theory. These will be complemented by elective modules, that participants will be able to select based on their own specific development needs.
The programme is built around a leadership experience which will have practical value in participants’ own schools.
How will the programme be delivered?
The programme will be available to 48 participants.
The programme will begin in January 2025.
The programme will take place over 2 years, where participants undertake the core elements in year one, and electives in year 2.
Year 1 is a continuous experience, incorporating 3 residential experiences during the year through which participants will develop a one-year case study of leadership experience in action.
In year 2, participants will be able to select elective modules based on their own specific development needs such as curriculum design, workforce planning, ALN, statutory requirements and developing individuals.
Each participant will undertake a 360 assessment at the start of the programme that will help to identify specific areas for development during the 2 years.
Each participant will be supported by a designated Leadership Coach throughout the programme. The Leadership Coach will ensure that each participant has opportunities to develop as an individual in response to the 360 assessment and to coach participants through the programme.
The programme will be led by National Programme Director who will ensure that the quality of each aspect is as high as possible and that the programme meets the needs of each participant and the nation’s schools.
Participants will be awarded the NPQH status at the end of the programme based on the one-year case study of leadership experience in action and ongoing discussions and reflections with the Leadership Coach.
