Effective assessment, and the systems underpinning it, is key to high-quality learning and teaching, and to successful schools.

This publication contributes to that goal. It offers general principles to make the most of the different purposes of assessment; for improved outcomes for learners, both in attainment and well-being, for the effectiveness of individual schools and for improving the education system as a whole.
